Deputy PM Angela Rayner faces calls to resign over tax row

Day three of the new delivery phase of Keir Starmer’s government has been blown off course by the Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner’s tearful admission that she failed to pay the correct tax on a new home.

She now faces weeks of questions, speculation and demands to quit while the government’s independent ethics adviser Laurie Magnus looks into her claim that it was an honest mistake.
