US President Donald Trump has hailed the relationship he has forged with Chinese leader Xi Jinping as a "truly great friendship", as the highly anticipated state visit got underway.

Artificial intelligence, trade and the war in Iran were all on the agenda when the two leaders sat down for talks.

President Xi is in the US for a three-day state visit, following Trump’s visit to Beijing earlier this year.
