Speaking at the Democratic national convention, US first lady Jill Biden reflected on her husband’s decision to step down from the presidential election campaign, saying, he dug ‘deep into his soul’. Jill Biden said the decision was perhaps the biggest of his political career, and one that came only after some serious soul-searching. ‘Joe knows that our nation’s strength doesn’t come from intimidation or cruelty,’ she said. ‘It comes from the small acts of kindness that heal deep wounds, from service to the communities that make us who we are, from love of a country that shines with promise and renewal. Kamala Harris knows that too.’
