'Do not travel' warning issued as record-breaking 114mph winds hit Ireland

The entire country is covered by alerts for wind and rare red weather warnings have been issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Ireland has recorded its strongest-ever mean wind speed, according to its meteorological service.

Met Eireann said a mean wind speed of nearly 84mph (135km/h) was recorded at Mace Head in Co Galway at 4am.
