Dozens of local elections could be cancelled

Millions of voters could be denied their chance to vote next year after the government decided it would allow dozens of local elections to be cancelled.

Up to 63 council elections scheduled for May 2026 could be postponed for a year to allow more time for local authority reorganisation.
