Drug deaths in Scotland remain worst in Europe

The rate of drug deaths in Scotland remain the worst in Europe, despite latest figures showing a drop in the number of fatalities.

According to the National Records of Scotland, deaths from drug misuse in 2024 dropped 13% to 1,017 – that’s the lowest number for eight years. But the number of drug deaths in 2024 as a proportion of the population is over 3 and a half times higher than it was in the year 2000.
