Developed in collaboration with CEO Elon Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, it’s claimed the Roadster can accelerate from zero to 60mph in less than one second and can hit a top speed of over 230 mph.
Tesla demonstrated the two-seater vehicle at a livestreamed event in Texas, showing it driving upside down on a ramp and performing a mid-air flip.
Musk told the crowd, "It can basically fly like a rocket", but admitted it’s "not necessarily a safety-optimised car."
It remains unclear how the proposed flying features would work on public roads, or whether they would be legal. Production is set to start in 2028.
