Energy bills to go up in the UK from January 2026

The energy regulator Ofgem has announced that there will be an unexpected rise in household bills from January.

It said that pressures like funding nuclear power projects were driving the price cap change.

The 0.2 per cent increase from the current cap will take effect from 1 January 2026 for households in England, Wales and Scotland on standard variable tariffs, meaning average bills will rise by around 28p per month.
