The population of England and Wales has grown by more than 700,000 in the year until June 2024 – that’s the second biggest increase for 75 years.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show the increase was mainly due to ‘net intentional migration’ – which is the difference between the number of people moving to the country, and leaving.
The ONS said it continued a long term trend seen since the turn of this century.
