More than 40 environmental groups are now pressuring parliament to use a new law to tighten regulation and put river health before profit.
One of the campaigners, Stuart Singleton-White of Chalk Stream Restoration, says, “We’ve got to respect and protect our rivers… All of it starts from healthy, nature-rich rivers, and that should be the priority right across England.”
