European leaders express doubt over Putin’s desire for peace

The Ukrainian president welcomed the news, saying it was a ‘big step forward’ toward securing a peace deal. However, the French president Emmanuel Macron said he had ‘serious doubts’ about Putin’s desire for peace. Germany’s chancellor Friedrich Merz also expressed doubt, saying he didn’t know whether the Russian president would have ‘the courage to attend such a summit.’
