Sir Keir Starmer says it is "early days" in his relationship with the new US president over trade – but he wants to see "strong trading relations".
The prime minister said he also wanted a "reset" in relations with the European Union as he met his German counterpart.
It comes as economists warn of a potential global trade war following Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China – with the EU likely to be next.
