Everything you need to know about the Renters' Rights Act

The government’s long-awaited Renters’ Rights Act has come into force, aiming to rebalance power between tenants and landlords.

The Act – which was given Royal Assent and became law on Monday – builds on years of campaigning by housing groups and promises to tackle “no-fault” evictions, poor housing standards and discrimination in the rental market.

But while millions of renters are expected to benefit from the protections, there are growing fears that the new rules, which only apply to England for now, may have unintended consequences and could drive up rents.
