Hateful language has been sprayed across the wall of the British Muslim Heritage Centre – a nearly 200-year-old listed Manchester building. Incidents like this are no longer an isolated case. Exclusive data shared with ITV News suggests that attacks on Muslim sites in the UK are becoming more severe. Monitoring groups say a mosque in the UK is now attacked every five days. And according to new analysis from the British Muslim Trust – the Government-appointed body that records anti-Muslim hate crimes and incidents – the recorded attacks on mosques are growing in their severity.
A governmnet spokesperson has responded to ITV News, saying: "Any form of religious or racial hate is abhorrent and we will not stand by and allow this to be the new normal. We are putting record funding into the protection of mosques to keep our Muslim communities safe – and we’ve adopted a new definition of anti-Muslim hostility so we can better recognise it, tackle it, and root it out of our country.” #muslim #communities
