Families fear they could be living above toxic waste | ITV News

The families of two children born with hand defects, who lived 200 metres apart, have told ITV News they believe the conditions could have been caused by toxic waste.

They lived streets apart in Little Stanion, a village with a population of 2,500, where whistleblowers say waste was dumped after the steelworks closed in neighbouring Corby, Northamptonshire.

When Corby’s steelmaking industry came crashing down in the 1980s and 1990s, the town underwent the largest reclamation in Europe.

In 2009, a High Court case found the council had negligently moved the waste in open-top lorries, causing birth defects in 18 children.

Families are now concerned about where the waste was dumped and whether it has caused wider health problems.
