Famous names affected by prostate cancer criticise NHS screening decision

Sir Chris Hoy has led an angry reaction to new official advice ruling out a national screening programme for prostate cancer.

It comes after experts told ministers that screening should not be made routinely available for the vast majority of men in the UK, despite research indicating that it could prevent 1,500 deaths a year.

Sir Chris says he’s extremely disappointed and saddened by the recommendation.

But the government’s advisers say they were concerned that a nationwide screening programme could do more harm than good.
