The Health Secretary has vowed to put a stop to the “immoral” use of do not resuscitate orders on learning disabled people, after ITV News found the practice is happening in NHS hospitals without their consent.
So-called DNR orders are used for people who are dying, who doctors believe will not recover, or who would be harmed by CPR.
NHS hospitals were condemned for this practice during the covid pandemic, which the health regulator ruled caused the avoidable deaths of disabled people.
But now families of those with learning disabilities say they are being placed on their medical records automatically, and without their approval.
But ITV News has heard disturbing evidence it’s still happening on.
