Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge is asked if the government’s decision to cut defence equipment is the right one.
He says, "I’m very disappointed because, doesn’t it seem an extraordinary time to be making these cuts, when the world is self-evidently getting more dangerous, and the threats to our country have grown?"
Sky’s Sophy Ridge puts to him that Britain’s armed forces needs modernising, which requires financial headroom to invest, but he replies that fighting a war requires "all the kit you’ve got".
