
A tiger has been released into the wild in Kazakhstan for the first time in more than 70 years, marking a major milestone in efforts to restore wild tigers to Central Asia.

The female Amur tiger is the first of four being introduced to Kazakhstan’s Ile-Balkhash Nature Reserve. Amur tigers are the closest living relatives of the extinct Caspian tiger, making them the best choice for restoring tigers to the species’ former range.
