Flying cat Mittens makes 7,000km round-trip after airport blunder

A cat has ended up taking three long-haul flights in just 24 hours after she was accidentally left in a plane cargo hold.

Mittens thought she was getting off in Melbourne after flying to the Australian city with her family from Christchurch in New Zealand.

But baggage handlers failed to spot her in the hold, so she ended up making a seven-hour return flight to Christchurch.

The ground crew in New Zealand were alerted to the situation and ensured Mittens was sent back to Melbourne.

She arrived back in Australia after 7,000km of travel and minus a few pounds in weight, but otherwise unharmed.
