The former chief of Pakistan’s army has denied reports Indian military strikes killed the family members of an Islamist militant group leader based in Pakistan.
Lieutenant general Muhammad Saeed, a retired three-star general of the Pakistan army, was speaking on The World with Yalda Hakim.
The interview followed claims from Masood Azhar, the Pakistan-based leader of militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, that 10 of his relatives, including his older sister, had been killed.
Mr Saeed dismissed those claims, despite Reuters also reporting that 10 of Azhar’s relatives were among 13 people killed in the strike.
During the interview, Mr Saeed also warned India and Pakistan were now “close to war”, and that the world should be worried.
