France has hottest night since records began

France has just had its hottest night since records began, a day after temperatures reached 42C in Bordeaux.

The prime minister says 40 people, most of them young, have died by drowning since the heatwave began there five days ago.

Around half of France is under a red heat wave alert and many schools have had to close.
