France protests: Crowds gather outside town halls urging calm after six nights of riots

Crowds have gathered outside town halls across France, joining calls for calm after six nights of riots, sparked by the fatal shooting of a Paris teenager by police.

By today, the violence appeared to be easing off – police made less than 50 arrests, in sharp contrast to seven hundred the previous night.
