France protests: hundreds arrested as new PM takes office

Images from France today show the depth of the country’s political chaos – protests and a new prime minister.

Hundreds were arrested at anti-austerity demonstrations, named by participants as the "Let’s Block Everything" protests.

There was also a ceremony for new prime minister Sébastien Lecornu. He becomes France’s fifth prime minister in two years and faces the formidable challenge of knitting together a workable governing coalition and passing a budget.
