In Paris, the curfew ran from 11 pm local time to 6 am and restricted access to the Place de la République and the Les Halles shopping district. Police also banned protests in certain areas between 8 pm and 6 am.
The restrictions follow unrest that affected an estimated 2,000 businesses, which began last month with student protests over school conditions before escalating.
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has given local authorities the power to impose curfews, saying the government would not be dictated to by “thieves” and “thugs”.
