The French far-right politician Marine Le Pen has begun an appeal against a ruling that banned her from running for public office for five years.

She was found guilty of embezzling EU funds last year and the ban prevents her from standing for president in 2027.
The Paris Court of Appeal case is expected to last for a month but a decision is not expected until the summer.
