1,800 schools have been blockaded in France during another day of protests demanding that President Emmanuel Macron’s government tackle understaffing and dilapidated buildings.

The demonstrations come after a fortnight of student protests which began in Paris’s deprived suburbs before spreading across the country. The government responded with riot police, saying the movement had now morphed into urban violence.
