A former French surgeon who sexually abused hundreds of patients for decades – most of them children – has been jailed for 20 years.

74-year-old Joel Le Scouarnec, had worked as a digestive surgeon in dozens of private and public hospitals in Western Brittany. He has emerged as one of France’s most prolific sexual predators, attacking children often while they were under anesthesia or waking up after operations. He has admitted to 111 rapes and 189 sexual assaults.
