A gas explosion in an apartment building in Karachi, Pakistan has killed at least 16 people, including seven children, according to police.

Rescue officials were able to save at least 14 other people after part of the building collapsed.
A gas cylinder, which is commonly used for gas supply in the country, exploded on the first floor of the building.
The incident happened just before families were getting ready to eat their pre-sunrise meal to begin their first fast for Ramadan.
Pakistan’s largest city Karachi which is home to more than 20 million people has previously been criticised over its construction standards and overcrowding.
