Gaza ceasefire: are Israel-Hamas close to possible deal?

Israeli officials say they’re in "advanced stages of negotiations" for the release of up to 33 hostages as part of a Gaza ceasefire deal with Hamas.

It’s thought to be the first phase of the deal, with further negotiations on releasing the other 98 hostages 16 days later.

A new round of talks is planned in Doha on Tuesday morning to finalise the remaining details. Both sides are said to be keen for an agreement before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
