Gaza could run out of fuel within hours after border crossings closed, warns UN chief

The UN secretary general has warned that Gaza could soon run out of fuel after Israel’s closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing, which follows Israel’s launch of an offensive on Rafah.

The southern city hosts more than 1 million people who have sought refuge from Israeli offensives.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, António Guterres said: ‘The closure of both Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings is especially damaging to an already dire humanitarian situation. They must be reopened immediately. Just to give you an example, we risk running out of fuel this evening’.
