General Election 2024: Councils unable to keep up with surge in demand for postal votes

People in Scotland have been left unable to vote in the upcoming general election after postal votes failed to arrive before Scottish schools went on summer holidays.

Councils haven’t been able to match the increase in demand for postal votes, which in Edinburgh alone has risen by 42% since the last general election.

Politics lecturer Dr Scott Brown says the delays could alter the outcome of the election, with polls showing there is a 1% difference in votes in certain constituencies.
