People in Georgia have also been ringing in the New Year – with all-night protests in the capital Tblisi. It was a scene of relative calm outside the parliament – following days of violence as security forces attacked demonstrators. The protests began at the end of November after the pro-Russian government halted talks on joining the European Union — even though the vast majority of Georgians support membership. We spoke with DW’s Anja Koch, who followed the protests and met two victims of the violence. A warning that some viewers may find this report upsetting.
