‘Who is she protecting?’ This is what the California Democrat and ranking member of the committee on oversight and government reform Robert Garcia asked after Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for luring teenage girls into Epstein’s abusive orbit, refused to answer questions during a closed-door congressional deposition on Monday.

This decision prompted criticism from a House representative backing efforts to release Jeffrey Epstein investigative files.
‘If this committee and the American public truly want to hear the unfiltered truth about what happened, there is a straightforward path,’ Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, told the committee. ‘Ms Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump. Only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters.
‘For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing. Ms Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.’
After the hearing, the House representative for New Mexico, Melanie Stansbury, said Maxwell was ‘campaigning for clemency’.
