Girl assaulted by Epping migrant speaks to ITV News - Watch ITV Evening News LIVE

A girl sexually assaulted by an asylum seeker in Essex has said she was "put in danger all over again" when he was mistakenly released from prison.

Ethiopian national Hadush Kebatu was jailed in September after sexually assaulting the girl, who was 14 at the time, and another woman, just days after arriving in the UK on a small boat.

The incidents sparked nationwide protests over the summer.

Kebatu was sentenced to one year in prison, but just a month later, he was wrongly freed.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor laid the groundwork today for what could be the first rise in income tax for 50 years.

In an unusual pre-Budget speech in Downing Street, Rachel Reeves said she would make the "necessary choices" to deal with the tough economic times.

She refused to rule out tax rises, leading many to think that income taxes will be targeted.

And not only would that be painful for millions of workers, it could be politically disastrous for the Government as it would break a key manifesto pledge.

And, a friend of the train worker who protected passengers during Saturday night’s mass stabbing attack has told ITV News he’s a "hero" who saved many lives.
Samir Zitouni was today named as the LNER worker who was badly injured in the attack and remains in a stable but serious condition in hospital.
