Government intervenes in planning to approve two new reservoirs

The lack of any new reservoirs being built in the UK for decades has become a signpost for those who want to see more building in the UK.

And the government is jumping on that as it announces it is forcing through the planning applications for two water stores – one in Lincolnshire and one in East Anglia.

Speaking to Sky News this morning, water minister Emma Hardy says: "If we don’t build all the reservoirs we need, then we’re going to run out of the drinking water required by the mid 2030s."
