The Government has backtracked on controversial plans to reduce jury trials.
The plans, proposed under Sir Keir Starmer, were intended to help tackle the case backlog , but faced pushback from MPs and legal professionals over concerns about fairness, rights, and whether it would even work.
Justice Secretary Alex Norris now says the changes to the proposal would allow them to reduce the backlog faster, as it would require less structural change.
