Government to make climbing on Winston Churchill statue a criminal offence

Offenders could face up to three months in prison and a £1,000 fine for desecrating the statue of the wartime leader Winston Churchill.

His monument will be added to a list of memorials protected by the Crime and Police Bill – which is currently making its way through Parliament. Sir Keir Starmer said making these acts criminal “is the least we owe” the former prime minister.
