The UK government is facing accusations of being "disingenuous" and "irresponsible" amid growing criticism for not introducing tougher licencing laws for new drivers.
Graduated Driving Licences (GDLs) are used in many countries around the world and are designed to grant new drivers road privileges in a staged format – such as not driving at night or with passengers – to reduce accidents.
Major UK motoring organisations and bereaved families say GDLs will save lives, but the government isn’t considering introducing them.
Ahead of the government’s unveiling of its Road Safety Strategy, Sky News joined Canada’s largest road policing unit and driving school to understand how GDLs work.
