Green Party leader Zack Polanski has been barred from entering Israel, in response to the party’s conference in Brighton voting to define Zionism as racism.
On Sunday, the Green Party of England and Wales passed a motion that declared the Greens to be an “anti-Zionist party” and said that Zionism will be “treated as any other form of racism”.
A total of 1,022 Green Party members voted in favour of the motion, with 813 voting against it.
It has highlighted a deep division within the party, as one of its deputy leaders backed it while the other opposed it – as did four of the party’s five MPs.
Polanski, who is Jewish, wasn’t present for the vote. He had voiced concerns about the motion’s wording but also recently said he was an “anti-Zionist”.
We spoke with Green Party advocate Ashok Kumar and the party’s former co-leader Adrian Ramsay MP.
