Hamas accepts parts of Gaza peace plan after Trump issues ultimatum | ITV News

Hamas officials have agreed in part to Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposals, including releasing all Israeli hostages, hours after the US president warned "all hell will break out" if Hamas did not agree to a peace deal by Sunday evening.

But the Palestinian militant group said that some elements of the deal would require further negotiations.

The proposal already has the backing of Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and is the first of its kind to envisage how Gaza would be governed if fighting were to subside.

In an official statement, Hamas agreed to release all Israeli hostages, in exchange for a cessation of hostilities and a complete withdrawal of troops from the Gaza strip.

The statement reads: "In order to achieve a cessation of hostilities and a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the movement announces its agreement to release all Israeli prisoners, both living and dead, according to the exchange formula contained in President Trump’s proposal, provided the field conditions for the exchange are met.

"In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement.

"The movement also renews its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats), based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support."

But Hamas officials said other elements of the deal would require further consultations among Palestinians.
