Israel’s key demand in any peace negotiations is the release of its hostages still held in Gaza. The US’s 20-point proposal calls for Hamas to hand over the remaining 48 captives, around 20 of whom are thought to be alive, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli detention. Hamas says it has now exchanged lists with Israel. So who are the remaining hostages, and which Palestinian detainees can expect to leave prison?
