Hamas frees six Israeli hostages, as Palestinian prisoner release delayed

The planned freeing of the latest group of Palestinians held in Israeli jails – expected to number 602 people – is part of the prisoner exchange deal between Hamas and Israel. We are nearing the end of phase one of the ceasefire between the two sides.

Hamas handed over six captives today, five of them in ceremonies in Gaza which the Red Cross and Israel condemned as cruel and disrespectful. All six have now been reunited across the border with families and friends.
