The prime minister is facing yet another crisis in his cabinet after his Defence Secretary quit over spending for the armed forces.
In his biting resignation letter, Healey said he was left with “no other option” than to resign, saying Starmer’s planned Defence spending "falls well short of what is required" to keep Britain safe.
Months after winning the 2024 general election, Healey said the state of the armed forces was “far worse than we thought”, and they were not “ready to fight” a war.
