An ITV News investigation into a secretive court system has exposed parents on the brink of financial collapse, as councils admit going to court over education provision when they know they’re almost always going to lose.
The six month investigation into the SEND tribunal system has angered politicians, who say that parents are ‘being treated like criminals’.
The SEND tribunal is a private court where parents, in increasing numbers, are turning to secure the right support for their children.
In 2023/24 there were just over 11,000 cases heard at the tribunal. 99 per cent ruled partially, or wholly, in favour of the parents.
