The ICJ is revealing its "historic" ruling on whether rich, polluting countries should be liable for climate damage in vulnerable countries like the islands of Vanuatu.
It comes as people living in Tuvalu in the Pacific scramble for climate-linked visas to migrate to Australia, while its shores disappear under the waves. Experts fear the islands will be gone within 80 years.
Wednesday’s ruling will clarify a country’s legal responsibilities under international law to limit climate change, and the consequences of breaches.
The decision is advisory and not legally binding. But it comes from the world’s top court and is "highly anticipated" by environmentalists, as it could make it easier to hold countries accountable for climate damage.
