The reform package announced today will see the number of forces being drastically reduced from the current total of 43 by a series of mergers.
There will also be a new National Police Service, dubbed ‘Britain’s FBI’. It will take over investigations into organised crime and major fraud and will oversee counter terrorism operations which are currently run by the Metropolitan Police.
