Australia are about to take a vote that will effect their constitution forever
It’s called the voice vote – and there’s only two options – yes or no for a constitutional recognition of Indigenous people in Australia
It will give the country a formal body so they can advise the government on issues affecting their communities
Indigenous Australians have a history spanning 65,000 years on the continent , and are made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – all with years of culture and tradition and thought to have 250 different language groups
Yes voters say it would recognise and pay respect to years of Indigenous culture, give Indigenous people the same outcomes as other Australians and has the backing of 80% of Indigenous communities
But the latest polls look set to reject the referendum – with no voters claiming it’s divisive and legally risky
