The truce between Hamas and Israel ended after seven days. In that time, Hamas and other militants in Gaza released more than 100 hostages, mostly Israelis, in return for the release of more than 240 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails.
Extensions of the truce were negotiated with international help.
Hamas is classified by multiple countries as a terrorist organization.
