After the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023, Israel launched a massive military offensive in Gaza. The war has left most of the Strip in ruins and killed more than 74,200 people according to Gaza’s Hamas-led Health Ministry – numbers the UN agrees are accurate. In the last three years, Israel has also expanded its military operations across the Middle East, fighting on several fronts. DW’s Anja Kueppers-McKinnon speaks to Middle East expert Daniel Gerlach about how October 7, 2023 marked a turning point for the whole of the region and the consequences for Israel.
